John Matheson, MD FACEP

I am a board-certified (ABEM), practicing Emergency Physician with over two decades of clinical experience. I have been a Medical Director, Department Chair, Chief-Of-Staff-Elect, Medical Staff Quality Committee Chair, and have served on numerous other hospital committees, including the Medical Executive Committee and the Community Board of Directors. I served as President of the Washington Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians and am an Assistant Clinical Professor at the WSU College of Medicine.

I have a passion for wellness and for preventing and overcoming burnout. I began and chaired physician wellness committees for both WA-ACEP and my hospital’s medical staff. I helped establish and co-chair a peer support program for TeamHealth, a national physician staffing company with thousands of clinicians. I have spoken in medical conferences and other settings to healthcare professionals and community members across the country on a variety of topics. Two of my favorite talks (and ones that relate most to my coaching career) are about cognitive bias and addressing burnout.

I love coaching. I have many years of “real world” experience and have provided guidance and mentorship to colleagues through my various roles. I received my formal coaching training from the College of Executive Training. I continue to study and take courses related to coaching so that I may continue to improve what I can offer my clients.

I am married and have five adult children (and two dogs). My family brings me great joy. I also enjoy golfing, skiing, amateur photography, and travel.
